I'm an entrepreneur. I think, then create, and try to live adventurously — and that shows up in how I spend my time.

My mind turns to anything strategic. Forking a king and rook in chess still fascinates me. So does the long arc of value investing and geopolitical statecraft.

There's nothing more satisfying than creating something from scratch. You'll find me growing heirloom figs no one else has, then turning them into a fig and ricotta dessert drizzled with lavender honey from my own hive. I love whipping-up small-batch artisanal ice cream and flavour popcorn so your tastebuds actually notice. I sometimes write villanelles, though Dylan Thomas would roll his eyes! Same for William Byrd at my baritone attempts, though singing makes me happy every time I try..

Living adventurously wraps it all. Wind is a recurring theme: I'll use it to sail coral reefs in a sloop, or to pilot a glider along a ridgeline thermal. When traveling abroad, my trips are unstructured to maximise exploration. So, happening upon Parco Sevillo on the Aventine Hill or a little chess shop in Greenwich Village is more memorable than well-worn tourist traps and gated resorts!

All of which is to say I live a full life.
