It is true that Russian ladies struggle with reading English letters even if they speak the language. The language they study at schools is different from the language you normally use. You may write in simplest phrases and do not use idioms, but a lady will still spend 2-3 hours on reading your 2-page letter with the help of a dictionary. If she cannot translate some expression or a word, she will simply skip it.

If a lady receives a few letters, she will usually first open all of them and look at photos, and then decide whose letters are worth reading. And if your picture does not impress her, or she feels tired, it may happen that your letter won't be read at all!
