Russian Bride Scam

"Russian bride scam" is something you will definitely hear about if you are looking for a Russian bride.

"Russian bride scam" is a common name for an online scam where you receive (usually unsolicited) an email from someone pretending to be a Russian woman or Russian girl with an offer of friendship and/or relationship, and then this person asks you to send them money.

There are many variations to the "Russian bride scam", however, the main points you can easily spot are:

• You are contacted at your email address;
• Usually the contact is unsolicited (i.e. you didn't contact this person first);
• The person pretending to be a "Russian woman" sends you lots of emails and photos and tries to establish a romantic relationship;
• After lots of emails, you are asked for money.

Usually you will be asked for money to apply for a visa and/or purchase airplane tickets. Sometimes there are variations, and you may be asked for money for funerals ("her mother died") or for some medical emergency ("her mother is very sick and needs urgent surgery"). You will be asked to send money via a wire transfer by Western Union or MoneyGram.

The simplest way to protect yourself from scammers in cyberspace is to follow the rule: never send money to anyone you haven't met in person!

No matter how convincing they may sound, how pretty/innocent/cute are their photos or how much you wish their story to be true, don't send money until you meet them in person!

The only way you may get scammed is if you don't follow this simple rule.
