I do have two dogs: Helen and Kynisca. The dogs are both labradoodles so neither sheds. I enjoy exercising, reading and watching movies. My reading tends toward history and science and my movies tend toward comedies and documentaries. The written comment of my first grade teacher was: “He is reliable.” I am broadminded. I am also very loyal.). I am kind and often called a “nice person.”

I assume meeting someone from overseas would not be easy. It would take patience, kindness, understanding and tolerance. To ask a guy to travel to meet you should mean that in good faith you are both expect to and will work to make this work. I think both people first have to spend some time on the internet and phone to test for similarities and willingness to make it work.

It would be nice if you had skype and a webcam.

My experience in life is that women who value (are attracted to) intelligence are the women who are more interested in me.

It would be nice to share and build a life with someone. To share movies and experiences over time.

Here is a speech I wrote last week for speech class:

This I Believe
By Lou Sheehan

I believe people can start over.

Out of caution and concern for an income, for about 20 years I worked as an accountant and lawyer eventually ending up in the narrow specialty of pension law. I was working for the ‘Public School Employees’ Retirement System’ which manages the Commonwealth’s teachers’ pensions. At that time the Pension System had over 50 Billion Dollars under management.

I was reasonably compensated but I was bored and unfulfilled. Some days when entering the office my legs would feel as if they were made of lead. It was a terrible situation for my spirit and the poison pervaded ever-so-many areas of my life.

In 1999 I was roused by the situation in Kosova. Allow me to briefly explain: in Kosova, the Serbian Government was committing ethnic cleansing against an identifiable minority of its citizens. That is, the Serbian Government was expelling and killing its citizens of the Islamic Religion and who also happened to be of Albanian decent. Obviously I was outraged at the unfairness and murder by a government of its own citizens.

On a personal level, I noticed the energy and emotion the Kosova crisis brought out in me and I compared my ‘Kosova life’ with my regular working life. I assume it is obvious to you, then, that I asked myself “What am I doing with my life?”

I spent time searching for an alternative and more satisfying occupation, but I was frustrated and unsuccessful. For example, I was too old at that time for all of the Armed Services unless I had medical training. That insight – the ongoing demand for those with medical training – left an impression in the back of my mind; perhaps so far back that you could say it was in my subconscious. Growing up I had very little experience with the medical profession and the thought of ‘I want to be a doctor’ never entered my mind.

Not with enthusiasm, I concluded that my only realistic option was to open my own law office and market myself as being in a unique situation of representing people against the Retirement System.

At that time, in order to be able to sue my previous employer, the law required that I NOT do any legal work AGAINST the Retirement System for a year. So, I took a cut in pay and, as they were hiring, I went to work for an employer called the ‘Catastrophic Fund’ (“Cat Fund”) for my planned year away from the Retirement System. By coincidence and not design, the Cat Fund did work relating to medical malpractice claims and it was there that my intellect was stimulated and my passions aroused! I had stumbled into something that interested me!

Knowing that I enjoy helping people and having learned that medicine presented an ongoing and stimulating mental challenge, and, further, that medical personnel were in demand, in 2004 I made a decision. I resolved to get a medical degree – my goal was to become a “Physician’s Assistant” -- instead of opening my own law practice and even though I had taken few of the relevant courses as an undergraduate. I should mention that when the Cat Fund’s Chief Executive asked me, in one of my earliest assignments, to monitor the rate of malpractice claims against Physician Assistants, I had no idea Physician Assistants even existed.

I knew it would be – and it has been -- a long haul, and I have had some ‘bumps in the road’ along the way. It has meant spending my savings and limiting my income, but by this December I’ll be lacking only one course that will then allow me the flexibility to apply to Physician Assistant School or even Medical School if I were to so choose. It was a conscious choice to forgo money to give my spirit a fresh start.

I am not there yet, but I have every expectation of arriving. While I’m no longer focused just on the possibility of becoming a Physician’s Assistant – working in the area of ‘genetics’ interests me – I believe people can start over.
